Rio de Janeiro e São Paulo. Paris e Londres. Madri e Barcelona. Difícil pensar em opostos mais exatos do que Nova York e Los Angeles. No entanto, poucas metrópoles exercem um fascínio tão grande em Hollywood quanto a capital informal do planeta.
Um frequentador típico das salas de cinema torna-se íntimo de Manhattan. Pequenos instantâneos que servem de garantia ao turista de que a relação à distância só tende a esquentar com uma visita. A TAM nas Nuvens se oferece para levar o leitor pelos quatro cantos da cidade acompanhado por alguns dos maiores diretores e atores do planeta.
Quando o empresário Michael Bloomberg (fundador da Bloomberg Television) sucedeu Rudolph Giuliani na Prefeitura de Nova York em 2002, ele decidiu que a cidade deixaria de perder investimento da indústria cinematográfica para o Canadá. Os produtores de Hollywood reclamavam que NY era muito cara e complicada para se filmar. Mas foi em 2004 que essa situação começou a mudar, com a implementação de um plano que abatia 15% dos impostos sobre produções qualificadas na cidade (seguido por abatimento de 20% do estado de Nova York, alcançando 35% de isenção). O programa ainda foi expandido, alocando US$ 30 milhões por ano até 2011 para o Office of Film, Theatre and Broadcasting nova-iorquino investir. O resultado é: 10 mil empregos e US$ 1,5 bilhão por ano desde então. Quatro ano depois, o número de dias de gravação locados na cidade havia dobrado, pois esse office também garante policiamento, aluguel de locações e licenças grátis. Até metrô centenário pode ser utilizado sem grandes burocracias.
Dois brasileiros - o casal de namorados Henry Bugalho, 28, e Denise Nappi 27 - descobriram que não só as locações são atrações turísticas como também as filmagens per se. E o que é melhor: não se paga nada para acompanhar e, para os mais sortudos, se pode até fazer parte de uma cena de cinema.
Autores do guia Nova York para Mãos-de-Vaca, uma boa sacada que reúne dicas sobre como aproveitar Nova York sem gastar muito, Henry e Denise contam que prestam atenção em alguns pontos da cidade para conseguir, quem sabe, conversar com os medalhões de Hollywood. "Em geral, um ou dois dias antes de as filmagens começarem, a produção espalha cartazes pelas ruas que serão usadas nos filmes. Muitas vezes, além dos horários, do nome do diretor e do elenco, eles informam até a sinopse do filme!", conta Henry Bugalho. "Nós também prestamos atenção na concentração de caminhões usados pelas equipes de filmagem. Foi assim que demos de cara com Ashton Kutcher e Cameron Diaz gravando em pleno Gramercy Park para Jogo de Amor em Las Vegas. Eles estava saindo do camarim para o break do almoço, foi ótimo!"
A dupla destaca as áreas preferidas da cidade para se acompanhar a movimentação da turma do cinema e da televisão. "São o Gramercy Park, o Stuyvesant Park (no East Village) - onde você vês as gravações das séries Damages, com a Glenn Close, e Gossip Girl, bem popular no Brasil - o West Village e o Madison Square Park."
Outra dica do guia Nova York para Mãos-de-Vaca é prestar atenção nas promoções oferecidas pelas empresas especializadas em passeios pelos cenários da cidade imortalizados pela sétima arte, como a On Location Tours (347 5th avenue, Nova York, 212/209-3370). A companhia tem um passeio de ônibus de três horas chamado Manhattan TV & Movie Tour, em que exibem 80 locais que já foram cenário de séries como Law & Order, Will & Grace, Seinfeld e the Cosby Show. Entre os 40 filmes do roteiro, Bonequinha de Luxo, Os Caça-Fantasmas, Homem-Aranha e Esqueceram de Mim 2. Outro é o Central Park Movie Tour, que dedica duas horas aos filmes ali gravados.
Ao fim dos passeios, é possível ter a certeza de que Nova York é mesmo um sonho na escuridão do cinema ou na poltrona de casa. Mas a cidade é ainda mais iluminada e convidativa ao vivo.

However, not many metropolis fascinate Hollywood as much as the planet's informal capital. A typical movie fan who frequently goes to the cinema gets to intimately know Manhattan and those images are guaranteed to wet the tourist's appetite for a visit. TAM nas Nuvens is here to take the reader for a tour around the city, in the company of some of the most famous directors and actors of the world.
When American entrepreneur Michael Bloomberg (founder of Bloomberg Television) took Rudolph Giuliani's place as mayor of New York in 2002, he decided New York would no longer miss out on investments from the movie industry to Canada. Hollywood producers complained that NY was too expensive and too complicated for shooting. But the situation only began to change in 2004, with the implementation of a plan to rebate 15% of municipal taxes on qualified productions made in the city (followed by a rebate of 20% in taxes offered by the state of New York, reaching a tax exemption of 35%). The program was expanded further, with the allocation of US$ 30 million per year up to 2011 invested by the Mayor's Office of Film, Theatre and Broadcasting. The result is: 10 thousand jobs and US$ 1,5 billion per year since the beginning of the program. Four years later, the number of days of film making in the city have doubled, as this office also guarantees police supervision, location rentals and free licenses. Even the centenary subway can be utilized without much bureaucracy.
Two Brazilians - young couple Henry Bugalho, 28, and Denise Nappi, 27 - discovered that not only the locations but the actual filming are an attraction for the tourists. And what is best: no fees are charged and for the lucky few, it may even happen they take park in a scene of a movie.
Authors of guide Nova York para Mãos-de-Vaca (New York guide for the tight fisted), a book full of tips on how to enjoy the city without spending much, Henry and Denise reveal they go to certain special places in the city in hope of talking to some Hollywood big shots. "Usually, a couple of days before the shooting begins, the production people put up posters on the streets of the location. Many times they inform not only the time schedule, but also the name of the director and the cast, even the synopsis of the picture!", tells Henry Bugalho. "We also pay attention to the concentration of trucks used by the crew. This is how we met Ashton Kutcher and Cameron Diaz shooting What Happens in Vegas in Gramercy Park. They were just leaving the dressing room to go on a lunch break, it was super!"
The couple points out the favorite areas in the city to accompany the movements of the movie and television crowd. "It's Gramercy Park, Stuyvesant Park (East Village) - where you can watch the shooting of Damages, with Glenn Close, and Gossip Girl, which is quite popular in Brazil - plus the West Village and Madison Square Park."
Another hint of the guide is to closely follow the promotions offered by companies specialized in tours, that show scenarios of the city already immortalized by the seventh art, such as On Location Tours (347 5th avenue, New York, 212/209-3370). After these tours, people truly confirm that New York is a dream city, both for those who watch films in the movie theaters or at home in a favorite armchair. But up close, in real life, New York is brighter and even more inviting.
